Developmental Academy Program

The West Florida Flames (WFF) Developmental Academy Program is professionally coached with an emphasis on correct training and philosophies utilized for teaching young athletes which is vital to their development.  WFF has been working with and developing these young athletes since 1975.  The program curriculum includes individual establishment along with small sided games.  The program is offered twice a year in the fall and spring. It is designed for the more committed player in the U6 – U10 age groups in the fall and U6 - U12 age groups in the spring that is seeking professional training and better competition. The format is one day a week of professional training and a weekend game in which the players are split into different teams each week to play small-sided games. Many players participate in both the fall and Spring Developmental academy in addition to the winter (main) Classic (recreational) season or the WFF Elite Academy Program. The Development Academy Program is ideal for the player that already knows they want to try-out for the WFF Elite (competitive soccer) Program.

Our three divisions, Matchsticks, Sparks and Future Flames, will gain soccer specific education toward developing a sound foundation in athletics.  Players will be taught with philosophies which include balance and agility, technical skills and small group passing.  Their games will enhance the development of group play and basic tactical awareness.  At WFF we pride ourselves in developing a critical thinking process coupled with creative play to enhance the independent and proper decision making required by players in today’s game of soccer.

These divisions of training are extensive programs focused on developing the future elite players.  The staff is committed to educating themselves and developing the most modern training modules.  This education includes teaching the young player self-esteem coupled with dynamic skills and the creative ability to utilize these skills during match play.  The art of 1 vs 1 attacking and defending, passing and combination play and small group possession are some of the concepts focused on during the Academy.  All training is implemented with a positive approach which allows players to become confident and secure in their development and growth as young athletes.
